One of my new rummynose tetras seems to be having a problem and I am not sure what is going on with it. He was active and healthy until last night when I noticed he looked pale in the face and whiter than the rest of the school.

Tonight I noticed an area that looks like a possible wound, or tumor or ???

He is swimming with the school some, but mostly he is just hanging out in that one spot and looks like he may be breathing a little heavy.

Here is one more.

I am not sure If I should pull him or just keep up with the water changes see what happens.

Well I knocked the white area off last night by accident trying to net him out. I smooshed him between the net and the glass, so I left him alone after that.

The area looks like a few scales have been lifted and there is a wound of some kind underneath.

I am going to try to net him out again today, but I don't know if it is something I can treat or something else.

My main concern is that the area was whitish and that it could be columnaris.

Yeah, I would agree removing him to QT ASAP would be a good idea in any case. All the views are of his left side...are there any corresponding things-that-shouldn't-be-there on the right? I have never had either columnaris (praise all deities in charge of fish) or rummynoses so can't really help with specifics. But if it's a disease he should be isolated, and if it's a wound he needs peace and quiet to heal up.

best of luck...btw that is an absolutely gorgeous tank, what we can see of it there. That bits-of-red-gravel on top of the tan sand is just what I've been trying for, except I cannot find suitable sand around here this time of year. Hopefully this should improve along with the weather as the construction and pool seasons both get underway. Great plants-on-driftwood ya got there too. :)

He seems a little bit perkier this evening, and is swimming with the school right now.

I am currently doing a 25% water change, and think I might keep that up daily for the next couple of days and see what happens.

I set up a bare bottom 10 this afternoon and have plenty of media for it If I need a hospital tank....If I see any signs of illness in any other fish I will pull them all out.

The white does seem to be coming back a little bit, but it isn't fuzzy or hairy looking. His overall body color is whiter than the others as well.

There is nothing on the other side, or anywhere else on his body, which makes me think it is a wound.
Thanks for the compliments about my tank, I have been putting some serious work into it trying to get it looking good.

I have a thread about it all in the photo gallery

Last night he had a little spot on his nose that I was worried about so I netted him out into a small bucket of tank water.

He died almost immediately after I pulled him out..he must have been really weak and stressed for that to have done him in so fast. When I got him into the bowl the stuff on his nose was gone, probably knocked off by the net or by his frantic swimming around the tank.

Everyone else still looks fine and I am not seeing any flashing or signs of stress, in fact my cories have been spawning all day.

So I guess I will just keep doing a lot of water changes to try to keep everyone healthy and clean out any nasties that might be potentially in the water.

Now it seems like my gourami has it too, I don't know what to think. He started acting a little bit listless a couple of days ago so I have been keeping a close eye on him. He has flashed maybe twice and isn't eating well now. He also looks a little pale and has had that long clearish/whitish poo.

There are zero noticable external lesions, sores, spots or bugs....his slime coat is a little rough looking though.

So I did a salt dip earlier this afternoon and it seemed to help his slime coat some.

I went ahead and dosed my big tank with jungle parasite clear a little while ago.

I also moved the contents of my 6 gallon eclipse into one of my empty 10s and am going to use it as a tank for my dwarf platies.
The 6 gallon is now full of water from the big tank and running with a filter in case I need to start pulling fish for more intensive care.

Any other suggestions?

I also pulled my mystery snail from the big tank...and dropped the poor guy and now he has a crack in his shell :( :( I'm not sure what to do about that either.

Updating again in case anyone is reading this.
The Jungle parasite clear seemed to do wonders. He is back swimming around today and eating a little bit. He is still a little bit pale and and his fins are still clamped a little bit. But over all he seems much improved.
I am feeding them all bloodworms right now and then will do a 25% water change and dose again.

The snail I dropped also seems to be doing ok.

I have put a piece of cuttlebone in the tank as well as a small plaster vacation feeder for him. The platies will like the added hardness and calcium as well I am sure.

Awesome! So glad he's better. I'm sorry for the loss of your Rummynose.

I've had good success with Jungle Labs Parasite clear, too. It has a good mix of anti-parasitic and anti-biotic medication. Whatever was wrong is hopefully being handled by the meds.

You're doing a good job, staying on top of things. I'd keep a watchful eye, though, for any changes in him or your other fish. I think the added calcium is a good move, also.
