For the last 3 days my Green Severum has just been sitting on the bottom of the tank.

He comes up to eat and swims around for about 20 seconds then he just goes back to sitting at the bottom. Then my other Severum comes next to him and just hovers over him. Both Severums are about 3 years old.

He is eating and the tank parameters are normal, 0 Nitrite, 0 Amonia, and about 12 Nitrate. The tank has been set up for over 2 years and all of the other fish are fine. Every week i do a 50% water change and vacuum the gravel. It's a 125 gallon with 2 Severums, a Green Terror, a pair of Convicts, an earh eater and a Blood Parrot. They are all fine.

Any ideas?

The fish in the pics are not showing any outward signs of disease or clamped fins. Colors were fine also. It is possible that this is the begiining of an ailment or that this is a normal behavior for the fish that you have yet to witness.

In any case the first step is observation. View for loss of color, bloating, irregular swimming, lack of apetite, etc. If the condition worsens do an immediate large scale water change and raise the temp to 82-84F. Then continue to look for signs of an ailment that can be treated.

I would suggest a change of the filter media and replacement of any carbon/poly pads. Most products exhaust within 30 days of use.

I noticed that both fish have a scratch in the same body location but on opposite sides, is it possible something is brewing from that?
I would find out what they are scratching themselves on so you don't risk infection there on top of any other possible illness.
Possible illnesses I will leave up to the more experienced and I will be watching for the knowledge to flow in. They say you should learn something new everyday, so I come here!!!

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to do another water change and clean the filters. He is still eating fine and has no signs of any infection. I have notticed that every once and a while a bubble will come out of his mouth.

That scratch or whatever it is has been on them since they were babies and i got them.

So glad to hear they were already there. One less thing to have to worry about.

My guess is that the "scratch" is some kind of sensory organ.

about the only thinkg you can do is keep an eye on the sev.

while there is no sign of exteral issues..there could be something else brewing internally

the sev doesn't show outwards signs of stress but keep an eye on it.

sitting at the bottom may be a subtle sign.
