For testing for chlorine, why not use a swimming pool test kit? It is used to test for chlorine levels so MORE can be added, rather than to reduce it, but still, it tests for the presence and quantity of chlorine. They are available anywhere that sells pool or spa supplies, and in the summer, most department stores have them along with the blow-up pools and water toys.

Have to agree that it is extremely important to use Prime to take care of chlorine, and chloramines. The fact that it detoxifies ammonia and nitrites is also HUGE in my book.

I use the emergency dose (5X) frequently, and have never had any adverse effects, and I've read countless posts here on AC, in which others have said it's practically impossible to overdose on Prime.
