silica sand

ive checked every building supply store on the island and all i can find is silica play sand (beach sand)

my questions are:
1) for a dsb should i buy some screen and sort out and use only the smaller particles, or is it fine the way it is.

2) what depth should my dsb be in a 55gal FOWLR

Any chance you have a sandblasting supply house in Hilo? If so, they will probably have a much wider choice of colors and grain size. I used a #125 mesh bright white sandblasting sand and it looks great! I went with 4" depth.

you might also want to check with any concrete suppliers-I've heard of a few people getting their sand from them. Makes sense-they have to have a supplier somewhere, and if they sell one kind of sand, can get another one.
