silicon acrylic

The center Brace on my 200 broke I purchased a 1/2 thick piece of acrylic to replace it the salesman at the plastic shop said silicone will bond to the plastic. It did for 1 week the new brace was on the bottom of the tank this Morning with no silicon sticking to it. I had left the clamps in place for 4 days after putting it in place. Do I have to do any thing to the plastic to prepare it? Or do I need to spend the big bucks on a piece of glass? yes there in water and fish in the tank

silicone will not make a strong bond to acrylic. Generally getting a small piece of glass is what is recommended, most places can do it out of scrap, so it shouldnt cost much at all.

Otherwise, if you want to use the acrylic there are a couple options. Some two part epoxies may work ok, or you can bolt (plastic bolts) the acrylic piece to the old tank support.
