I picked up some Silicone I from Lowes, which is 100% Silicone.
The warning label indicates not for use in Aquariums, is this a standard CYA. I bought some clay pots for caves and I am a little heavy hand and had to caulk several pieces together. Are they OK to go in. I let them cure for a little over 72 hours now...

what silicone did you buy. One silicone caulk i know is ok is DAP 100% silicone rubber sealent which is made by dow corning for DAP. This is also the same silicone manufactured by down corning as an aquarium sealent.

If it says not for use in aquariums, its not for use in aquariums and most likely contains an anti-mildew agent of sorts. I went to lowes the other day and didn't fine a silicone that was proper for aquarium except for the lil tiny 6$ tube labeled for aquariums, which was a complete rip off

Actually, the DAP says "not for continuous underwater use" but it' the same tube that I saw a variety of sites recommend. It may be a CYA situation.

it's indeed a CYA measure IMO. If it's 100% silicone and safe for food contact surfaces, you'll be fine. I've seen the GE 1 label that says not to use it for an aquarium, but it's fine.

It is GE Silicone I, 100% Silicone. That is what everyone recommends, yet it still says not for conditions exceeding 400 degrees and Aquariums. I will assume it is a CYA but toss the pots anyways.

Not to steal your thread but I just DIY sealed some of my aquarium about 20 min ago but I hadn't read this topic yet. I bought Silicone II 100% Silicone Sealant (Clear). It says on the back of the bottle...

"Silicone II Window & Door is our best 100% silicone sealant and resists the growth of mold and mildew on the cured sealant via GE's Bioseal technology."

It never says anything about aquariums and it says its for Window and Doors. Do you think this stuff is ok? If not then I'm screwed...thanks Plus how long does it usually take to cure fully?

Bioseal is not good - it is a chemical to kill fungus and mildew. I recommend scraping the silicone and getting the Silicone I without bioseal or the DAP 100% silicone.

Ok thanks guys...If I scrap it off really good is it still going to leave any residue in the tank that could possibly harm my fish? I will scrap it off as best as possible.
