single kribensis

I am about to start new community tank (20 gallon high that has been running without fish for several days) with biospira and have a few questions:

Can I keep a single krib along with other typical community fish (i.e. corys, tetras, barbs, etc..)? Will a single krib get along with these type of fish?

Also, can a betta and a krib be kept together?

I have read that that kribs are easy to keep. Is this true?

I have soft water with a ph of 7.2

I have two kribs (a pair) in my 20 gal community tank. I have danios, an angel, a ram, cories and a loach in with them. They all do really well, and they constantly have babies. As long as you provide the kribs with a cave and lots of plants for hiding in and territory markers you should be good.

The kribs will chase others away from thier territory but never do any damage. They are super fun to watch and i highly reccommend you get a pair so they will be happy. Try to get one male and one female, if you end up with two of the same sex then trade one in for the opposite when they grow up. They don't really have any special requirements other than they love frozen or live foods. (but what fish doesn't? )

I'm not sure about a betta with a krib, i keep mine seperate. You have to be careful with bettas because any fish that has nice fins it will get mad at. Also other fish that are nippy (like barbs) will bite at the betta. I can't see the kribs soley picking on the betta, they will just chase it away from thier part of the tank like all other fish, but could result in the betta having some nipped fins.


I love bettas too, so i would go either way. Maybe someone else has kept the two together, but i'm not entirely sure so i won't reccomend it.

I tried keeping a male betta in with my pair of kribs... Needless to say he looked like a plakat in a matter of seconds. (most his fins where gone). This all thanks to the kribs .
