They're so cool, and I really like them, but I have my doubts on how well one would do in a 30. Is this doable? I would do water changes and everything else sufficiently. If not a sev, what is a good single 'wet pet' preferably SA or CA cichlid for a 3 foot 30g?

IMO 55 gallon or 4 foot tank minimum. They are awesome looking fish but can get up 10-12 inches, 3 foot tank just not enough. A single doesn't really come to mind, but some convicts would be cool in there

I agree, you could get a pir of convicts. Just be ready for fry! Jewel chiclids are STUNNING fish that you can find at most stores. Rams are another option....

Sevs get too big for a 30. You could have a T-bar cichlid,or Blue Acara would work. Convicts would too,but I would stick to a single. The fry will overwhelm you unless you plan ahead to get rid of them.

You could grow one out for a while in a 30, but it would be too small for an adult. Just about any of the smaller species would work, I have loads of cutteri juvies and oblongum fry coming along. Even a single male peacock if you want something colorful. I have a spare male Aulonocara eureka red, would look like this one in his own tank:

I also have some ruby reds, this male is only 3" and already showing good color, will only get better as he grows:

The next CCA meeting is in September, you might want to consider joining or at least checking out a meeting. All sorts of great fish turn up in the monthly mini-auctions, and quite often sell for ridiculously low prices.

How do you go about joining?

A pair of Firemouths could work or Cutteri like Todd said which BTW Todd do you have some extra Cutteri for sell..

I have a proven pair of young adults and around 120 2" juvies available, currently listed on aquabid. I also have probably 200 oblongum fry growing out, just about 1" now. Some of those will be feeders for the Carapo knife after the cutteri juvies are moved out of the 40.
