Sink My Driftwood

driftwood lowers pH drastically

I bought my first fish tank 2 months ago and decided I wanted lots of drift wood in it. I've had pretty low pH in my tank, low enough to make me really concerned. I haven't been able to rais it at all, not even with 30% water changes. Yesterday I read online that driftwood lowers the pH pretty drastically. So just a warning for other newbies.

Should I have boiled the wood before putting it in the tank? It still makes my water brown. Should I take it out and boil it you think?

Eventhough it will sink right away it is still best to boil it to get out all the tannins I would do a 75% or better water change asap and make sure you have a good charcol filter to help clear teh water
Does the boiling rid the wood of tannins?
