Sinking cypress driftwood

I just got a rather large piece of cypress driftwood and it floats. This has been covered before and most people say to boil the wood but the wood is too large for me to boil. It has been soaking all day in my bathtub with hot water. What are my other choices to weigh it down? String with rocks? Piece of slate screwed to bottom?
Im not sure if I would have room for large enough rocks to keep it down and not sure if the slate would either. What are my other options?
 
Good idea, its pretty much hollow with 2 different cave systems running through it. So maby if i load it up with enough rocks it will work. I will have to try that tommorrow. Going to let it soak it hot water in the tub all night.
 
I have used the bottom 'plate' of a terra cotta pot. It looks like a regular small dinner plate, but heavier.. Attach with a screw. Keep the plate or saucer upright so you can cover it with gravel to help hold it down.... HTH
 
wetman I tried the bag full of rocks I wasnt able to get enough rocks in it to make it sink. I also tried tying it to a large rock I had but it still wouldnt sink.
Im not sure if I could attack a pot bottom to it there isnt really a flat surface.
Would soaking it in water for a month maby waterlog it enough?
 
A month, probably. Its going to take some time to soak up enough water to weigh it down.

I have seen real thin slate. There's a LFS that has a great selection of driftwood, but their slate on the bottom of the peices is real thin and doesn't have much weight to it.
 
The piece of cypress is 19" long and up to 11" wide. Right not its in a bathtub full of water whith a rather large rock on top of it to keep it submerged. I tried attacking the rock to the wood with some thread but the thread kept breaking or the rock would slip out.

The terra cotta pot base might work if i can place it on the bottom of the tank and fill it up with enough gravel. I might give that a try and if it doesn't work soak it for a month or two.
