Sinking Driftwood

yeah i thought about doing that too. i'd have to buy slate though as there is no slate naturally around here. i also thought about that for the tiny piece i have in my 5 gallon which is waterlogged and sits on the bottom, but it doesn't sit upright like i want it to ;)

Try a landscaping supply place or a gravel yard...they may let you walk out with a chunk for free or just pennies...

I just went to my local rock yard and collected about #30 of small broken pieces in a 5 gallon bucket. When I went in to pay for it they said "Merry Christmas" and let me have it for free. Made a nice wall

Depending on how your fish can handle salinity, you could try soaking it in water with higher salt content than your aquarium. This would make it naturally heavier, and better able to sink at first.

I had the same problem some time ago. I bought some suction cups and screwed them into the bottom of the wood. Then I attached the suction cups to the bottom of the tank, under the gravel. It worked.

hmm suction cups, thats not too bad of an idea

the dowel rod isn't bothering me that much

you really should've boiled your driftwood before putting it in your tank, but i guess a piece this size is difficult to put into a boiling pot large enough...

boiling driftwood is over-rated. i don't know why people are so paranoid about boiling driftwood before it goes in the tank anyway! i guess its because most of the people here keep delicate little tropical fish. i hate tropical fish. most native keepers like me don't even bother to wash the mud off their driftwood they just plop it in there. any critters on it are just fish food! ahhh i'm just rambling now :screwy:
