Siphon Recommendations

You just need to condition the amount you're adding to the tank, since the tank is already dechlorinated. Although a little extra won't be bad, adding enough to dechlor the entire tank would kinda be a waste of dechlorinator.

thinking about getting a python myself, since I do biweekly water changes of 50%... Might cut the time down quite a bit.

And if you just have 1 x 10g, I agree, it might be overkill. Up to you though.

There is a better technique than lifting it up and down. Put a plug of water in the tube, other end in the bucket and quicky re-submerge the the vacuum end back in the tank. Try it -- it works!!!

For a 10g, a python might be overkill.

What do you mean "a plug of Water"?

It actually might make my life easier since I am currently cycling the tank and I have to do daily water changes...

If you are worried about waste, a longer Python hose connected to a hosepipe in a yard works well and also puts the waste water to use directly on your lawn. When I get my 125 I will start using my Python that way. Obviously since hosepipes are cold water only, you'd simply disconnect the hose and move it to an interior faucet with hot water to adjust to the correct temperature for tropicals on the refill.

When I'm using my Python to change the water in the 29 gallon I waste hardly any water at all.

I only need to run the faucet long enough for the water from the tank to reach the sink, then I turn off the water and the syphon keeps draining my tank.

I'm sure I waste an entire half gallon of water doing this, but that's acceptable. :D

Unfortunately I have to run the water constantly to maintain a siphon on most of my tanks. On the one tank that I can turn the water off and allow it to continue, the siphon action is incredibly slow, even compared to a standard "gravel vac with bucket" method.

I still use it to fill my water-aging reservoirs, and I still recommend it for most people who are working with tanks of 55g or less.

I have got to get me one of those. I have 10 tanks 75g, 55g, 29g, 4x 20g, 2 x 10g, a 5g and is still using 5g buckets. Also have a 29g and a 90g that is not set up yet. Takes me about 3 hours to do my water changes.

What if you have to buffer your water before you pt it in the tank. Is it still ok, to just dump what you need to buffer the water (baking soda) while your filling the tank up with the python.

Yeah pythons are nice to have... I've been using four 5 gallon buckets, and got sick of hauling them back and forth to the 55 gallon, 15 gallon, and the sink, so I broke down and got the 25 foot Python at Walmart for $30. It saves a lot of bucket hauling. :dance
