Skimmer Don't Buy List

Well I have to thank all of you for your quick replies.

The only available skimmers were the Seaclone 100, Coralife Super Skimmer, Skilter 250 and another SKilter just bigger, and the Prizsm. At least that is all I could find in the big box stores and the 2 LFS that deal with marine in this town.

I watch the 10 Seaclones that the one LFS was running and they all seemed to be running well, plenty of dirt in the cup, no bubbles in the tanks (sumps etc) and no leaks that I could see. The noice was hard to judge as it was obviously in a store.

The other LFS was running one Skilter on a smal display and it had bubbles. They were also running Priszm and they just didn't seem as functional in the collection area and they were having problem with one of them when I was there. That helped.

So the final verdict was that I picked up the Seaclone 100 (from the LFS) even if I paid more than from the big box store. I would rather support the small outfit.

It has been running all day and the tank is bubble free and the skimmer is skimming for lack of a better word. Compared to the Skilter I feel like I'm in the library :-)

So far I am 1000% happier than I was when I was running the Skilter. (now listed on a local web classified section for sale cheap).

I would have to say that given my choices and size of tank(32G) I made the correct choice, for now.

Thanks again for your help.

Well, I would have gone with the Coralife Super Skimmer, many of us have that one and are happy with it. I wish you the best of luck with the Seaclone. I tried it for a while with horrid results. I started looking online to try to figure out any tips for it and basically was told by every site I found that if satan were to spawn on earth it would be in the form of a seaclone skimmer. I wiped it down and returned it and looked around the LFS's. The only one that I found was the Coralife and it's been great for me.

I guess you will have the chance to say "I told you so", if the time comes. Only been 2 days but I'm happy with it so far. If I get frustrated in any way with it I will post again.

Good luck you probably could have picked up a decent skimmer from any of the reliable ones out there on ebay for less than you paid for the crappy seaclone......good luck, maybe you will be the one person it works for.....

I have no reasonable explanation as to why lfs stores insist on carrying this piece of crap.....then again they also sell the fission nano skimmer and the skilter skimmers and of course the prizms......

If your remora was anemic then you must not have had it adjusted correctly I have had 3 of these and each and every one was excellent.....

Tom had the Remora.

ebay just isn't as easy being in Canada. The .ca version does not have a lot of local content and when I buy something from the staes I end up having to pay customs duty and our tax on top of the cost. Plus the shipping from the States to here is not cheap and a lot of the sellers don't want to ship to Canada.

I'm also one of those "like to see what I'm getting" kind of guy. I've rolled the dice with this skimmer and if I end up having to buy something else maybe I can sell this one on ebay...

Good to support the little guy... but at least with the big box, you're guaranteed the option for a return.

Hope it works out for you. Have you seen the Mods for the SeaClones? They say if you do the mods it will make the skimmer a little more functional...
