Skimmer help and advice.

I'm using a ViaAqua HOB multiskimmer. It's working kinda ok but i do have a little problem i need advice for.

The water intake tube has a strainer at the bottom and a surface skimmer at the top. I've noticed that it's not causing enough suction at the surface to suck the guck of the top of the water.
Was thinking that if i put something like some plastic cable ties around the strainer part to limit the water sucked in there it might create more suction at the surface. Does anyone think that it might work or does anyone have any other ideas????

u just gota mess with them...my buddy had one and we ended up smashing it and he got a red sea skimmer. they are very finiky and take sooo much time to adjust...lol good luck u just gota try EVERYTHING.

Found out if i close the air valve it will suck the surface, but i get bubbles coning back into the tank. As soon as i open the valve it stops sucking the surface. I think i can live with it until i can upgrade it.
