skittish corys

I have 4 emerald's. They usually flit around together, sometimes they chill. At night when I sit and watch them they swim around a lot, but during the day, though I don't look at the tank as much, they are usually chilling some where. I only have 2 rock caves, and a few live plants. They seem "happy".

I would try removing things slow, if you want to see them out more and that is the path you are taking to see them. Big changes would be stressful if you take out a ton of hiding places all at once.

what color is your substrate? I read that they feel comfortable most with a substrate they blend into. I have what looks like river pebbles, and they blend in quite well to it's color.

JMO but I don't think removing their hidey holes is the answer.

In my exp the opposite has helped me on a number of times. I've found that if I give me hiders (corys & plecos) a number of places to run to, they feel more safe and venture out more, due to them always having a bolt hole nearby if they need it.

I've seen cory's at friends houses that are out because they have nowhere to go and they're always rooted to the spot with fear.

Yeah, I don't plan on removing anything it would be more of a hassle than anything. I do have lots of stuff for them to hide in and around, which is why I'm sooo perplexed  !! Oh well, I'll leave them be for now, hopefully I'll be buying my BIG tank sooner than I thought. In the process of negotiating a 180g!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
