Skunk botia/loaches and guppies

When I ahve fast difficult fish to catch, I turn off the lights and come back in awhile and use a flashlight.

It's the old deer in the headlights. Put the net in the water, shine the flashlight on them and swish, they are yours!

Works pretty well for me. Your mileage may vary.

Here is a picture of my biggest guy. Excuse the scratches. I bought this tank 2nd hand and the guy assured me the scratches wouldn't show when I filled the tank with water. LOL I still love my tank scratches and all.

Thanks for all of the help! I tried the jar, and I could have caught any guppy or platy in my tank because they all crammed in there for the food, but the botias stayed out. Clever little criminnals. So I drained a lot of water and took out all my decorations and got them out without too much trouble. In the meantime they did a great job thinning out the snail population! And most of my guppies have partial tails. They seem healthy for now, but I'm watching them closely for signs of disease from the trauma.

Definitely keep the water as clean as possible. Clean water can go a long way in treating fin damage...

On the subject of clown loaches, I have two in my 55 gallon discus tank and they do fine. They do grow large, but mine are growing very very slowly. I have no problems with snails in their tank. Mine have a favorite hiding place and come out mostly at feeding times. They are so cool looking!

Kuhlis are fine but they certainly are abysmal at putting a dent on snail populations. Assassin snails (Anentome helena) will work there.

The only thing I've seen my Kuhlis eat are bloodworms, no snails at all. But they're still fun to watch. :D
