Well ....I know it doesn't change the Ph but I have bogwood in there now which I'm told is not ideal for our hard water loving friends.....
slate debate please?

Bogwood will soften the water, but it's effect is temporary. crushed coral aragonite or any number of things with similar chemical make-up will counteract this. Slate is metamorphic and stable underwater so as said it will not effect chemistry.

I got some large chunks of slate from daveedka awhile back. I finally got around to using it a few days ago. It made some fantastic caves. After I busted it up, I ended up with some big irregular chunks that I would never have gotten from the LFS. Thanks man!
