Anyone know where I can pick up slate? I want to make some rockscapes using slate.

home depot or another local hardware store. craft stores might also have some on hand. you could always look online as well. I have seen some kits for sale of slate slabs.

LOL.. looks like you got some replys while I was typing mine..

Thanks everyone. I thought HD would have it but figured I would ask on here before I went there. Still debating on slate formations or use styrofoam and make my own.

Slate can be had as floor tile in 1 ft squares at the home improvement center for fairly cheep compared to slate at the LFS. The stuff I got is about 3/8 inch thick and can be broken into the shapes you want. I have used pieces to mount sticks for the driftwood look and have built fish caves out of it using aquarium silicone to glue the pieces together in the shapes that I wanted. Just be sure you let the silicone cure until there is no more odor and it will be safe for the fish.

What kind of silicone?

GE Silicone I - 100% silicone, clear, for windows and doors

Just beware.... Many natural rock tiles are pre-treated/sealed. Do a bit of research before placing that stuff in your aquarium.

Will the treated slate say it on the package? I was thinking of getting slate stepping stone?
