My plants have been in the tank for about a week now, and I just noticed some sort of slime near the base of a couple of my red ludwigia plants. It is clear but sort of milky looking, and I'm wondering what it is. I plan to pull them out and give them a good rinse to remove the slimy stuff, unless it's nothing to worry about. Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm not really sure.

Can it be snail eggs? You'd be surprised how much goop those things can lay sometimes!!

Or does it perhaps look like some sort of a fungus?

Can you get a picture?

I was thinking it was some sort of algae or fungus, but this morning after I posted I found a snail crawling on the glass. So I'd say it being snail eggs is a good possibility. I rinsed off the goo and replanted, and I'll be keeping an eye out for any more of the stuff. Oh and I also flushed the snail!

Wish I could get a pic, but I don't have a digi cam or a scanner at the moment.
