Sluggish Fish

no, it finished its cycle about 5 weeks ago, I started with a scooter blenny and some crabs for a few weeks and then added four more fish about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

the new fish were very active and communal until last weekend, since then they've slowed down a lot.

the yellow tang hardly comes out of hiding

I watched Scooter (blenny) die this afternoon, he went into a siezure like state with his mouth wide open and fins flared, twitching very fast and then....nothing; the color faded.

Very depressing.

Anyway, I'm at a complete loss, the fish were happy last week and reclusive this week. I'm starting to wonder if they become diseased. I did add the snails about the same time they slowed down.

Symptoms:
Flicking against objects
Twitching of fins (almost like their scratching)
non-communal
hiding alot

I've looked up a little about marine ich, i can honestly see no salt like white spots on these fish, they are dark in color except for the yellow tang.

If I really strain I can see almost like a dusting on their sides but I can't be sure it wasn't there before. When my wife looks at them she sees nothing.

Any info at all would be great. Can I treat the tank with some sort of cover-all medication or anti-biotic that would improve their immune system?

If it is ich, I may look into the Kent RX-P product referred to in the gbolton thread.

Scooter was our first fish, the kids will not be happy.

thanks

Didn't this all start after a water change? Is it possible that something bad got added at that point? The carbon might remove it, but you may need something like polyfilter. Also, finding out your current water parameters may be really useful right now.

Tang died today.

This did all start after a water change but there were also other changes with the addition of the snails and new lighting.

After reading more I think they may have some external parasite like oodinium (?sp) The rubbing, scratching and darting...my wife even looked at them closer and said they look "velvety".

I think I'm going to try a copper treatment in the q-tank, my lfs doesn't have RX-P and I don't want to wait any longer.

what do you think?
