Hi,
i Already have a tank with 1 male crowntail, two female crowntails
and 2 veil tale females.

i want to start a small tank in which i can just keep 1 male, can anyone recommend a tank/bowl (that can be bought in the uk)

and can anyone give me any tips in keeping this tank?

Cheers :)

all your current bettas are in one tank? i highly and very strongly advise against this! females and males should only share a tank when spawning, as there is a high probability that they will fight and kill each other.

please seperate your male betta asap!

female bettas can be kept in a sorority if their temperaments allow for it.

(sorry if it seems like i'm yelling, but for the sake of your fish please get them housed properly right away)

OP hasn't mentioned any problems regarding aggression, its possible the tank is either a) large enough for them to have breathing space and sufficient hiding space or b) They've less aggressive personalities than people often make betta's out to have.

Go for a tank of about 10L+ Tim, that would be the minimum for a male betta to have an 'ok' life. As you live in england like m'self, i suggest you pick up a heater off of Ebay, they're dirt cheap (i actually bought one this morning, as my old ones not doing a solid job anymore, for just £3.50). Most people suggest a small filter for betta tanks, though it really does boil down to personal oppinion on the matter. If you go with a filter make sure the one installed is too small for your tank going by the suggested tank sizes written on the box.
If you dont use a filter, Do water changes of 25% twice a week to ensure good parameters.

Those are the basics of keeping bettas.

IMO bettas would need at least 18L to be happy, yes they can survive in 10L but they wont thrive and be happy. I also recommend a small filter and heater, either a submersible filter or one that has a low flow as to not push the betta around too much.

I think 10 liters would work, that is about 2.6 gallons which is fine as long as it is filtered and heated IMO.

@bettafishmommy

they are all getting along fine. i didnt introduce them all at the same time, i started off with one, and added from there, its a well planted 28 litre tank, is that ok? to be honest i think bettas have bad reps.

and 10 litres? sounds ok, ill have a look on ebay now :) cheers

Agreed Tim; there are a few bad tempered bettas, but to be honest i dont think they're any worse than any other fish.

10L will work though if you can push for a few extra then it all lends itself to a better environment y'know. Ebay has so many cheap tanks going its insane, i got my 35gallon for £10 with a stand, and my 10g was..£20 i believe. Just remember you want length more than height if it comes down to a choice between two tanks of similar water capacities : p

10 liters is perfect. buy a small cheap filter and you can make a sponge filter for cheap.

28 litres translates into approximately 7 gallons. you have 5 bettas, including a male, in a very small tank. even if they were all females i would say it is overstocked.
