right now i have a large featherfin catfish (im not sure the scientific name of it) and hes gonna have to go because he will eventually get to big so i want to get a smaller catfish for my tang community, perferably nothing over 3in....... any sugestions???

Microsynodontis are river fish, totally unsuitable for a Tang environment. A group of S. petricola/lucipinnis would be the best choice for small Syno's. Once in a while the Tang bullheads (Lophiobagrius spp) are available from Atlantis, but they are relatively big-mouthed critters that will eat fry. Also nocturnal, seldom/never seen, like many other catfish species.

That featherfin is called synodontis eupterus feather fin squeaker, they do get huge i just traded in 2 of them out of my 120gal i miss them but i love my new colony of 5 syno multipunctatus cats and will stay alot smaller 5 to 6 inches.. you could go with these maybe like 3 of them will suite the 55gal you have..
