We are the proud owners of three new corys: two small paleatus corys, Terkel and Merkel, and one panda cory, named Twhee. :D (Our 3yo named them and was very particular, especially about how to pronounce Twhee--- not Tree or Twee. What can you do? :)) They're tankmates to our male betta Ticky in a 10 gallon tank, who has lived in the cycled tank for about two months.

We intended to get three pandas, but after fishing Twhee out of the tank at the LFS they realized he was the only one they had. (We originally thought there was at least one other that was hiding.) So we added two of the small peppered corys instead. The LFS said they'd grow to about 2.5 inches. When I came home to look up information on the internet about small corydora paleatus I couldn't find anything... just the generic breed info that says the adult size is approx. 4 inches.

So does anyone know anything about the small ones? Are they common? Just bred to be smaller? I'm just curious. Also any advice on taking care of all these little cuties would be welcome. As you might tell, we're quite the newbies. They do seem to be all getting along well so far from what I can tell (from my limited understanding of fish behavior). This morning my son and I panicked a little, because it took almost five minutes for the panda to come out of hiding, and I'd begun to think bad things. The three corys now seem to hang out together for a while and then go exploring on their own. The betta swims around doing his own thing.

These guys are also known as pepper cories. 2.5'' sounds about right for their size. These guys usually prefer lower temps, 68-76F, but, IME, they do fairly well at higher temperatures as well.
