My brown algae problems have led me to overlook my slight revulsion to most Plecos and have me looking for a small (less than 4") species that will eat this off plants/rocks/wood. Pitbull and Rubbernose come to mind, but I'm not sure if they'll eat brown algae - do they? And what other species can I take a look at?

your best bet is to just scrape it. by silicates in the glass of the tank, and it will eventually stop growing.
I know, but I wanted to get an algae eating fish anyway and Plecos are different enough from my other fish to interest me. So do the Plecos I mentioned eat brown algae?

Though I appreciate the advice, nobody has answered my question. I know all about Otos, but I don't want any - I'm specifically looking for a Pleco. I think a Pitbull Pleco would be what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure if it is a good algae eater (brown specifically).
