Looks more like the one I saw. The guy at the store said that the one they had was full grown and it was about 4" but he could have been lying. Either way I wont get it because 200 is too much for me.

Well that is a picture of a L273 titanicus pleco. If it has that much red in it $200 isn't all that bad of a price, but they are wrong on it's maximum size. That one will still get to be about 12".

I dont like the look of the bushynose.

For my first pleco I'l go with something cheaper like the clown.

i have a clown pleco with an albino cory they dont even notice each other, but having said that i did have a rubber nose pleco in with the clown and the clown killed it.

I have a Bristlenose Pleco and he does a good job with the algea. He does get a little territorial towards any fish that hang out at the bottom of the tank.

The same specie(s) of pleco is sold under the common names of bulldog, rubberlipped, and rubber nosed plecos. There is some variation in coloration, bronze to grey bodies and black or white markings, but they all have the same basic appearance and from what I've read stay under 4 inches. In my experience they are hardy and hold their own against aggressive tankmates, I'm surprised that a clown pleco killed one. I have one with mbuna cichlids and featherfin cats and it doesn't have a mark on it while a common pleco was always nipped up. I also have one in a young frontosa tank and it doesn't show any aggression towards the smaller fish. Their availability has become common and are sold for under $4.

I agree with fiske. I have a rubberlip and got him for about $5. "Rocky" is awesome, never gets picked on and does a good job of cleaning the tank.
If there is a piece of food he wants noone gets in his way! It's kind of funny to see him push the shark and loaches off the zuchini!

I have 2 questions about driftwood for clowns:
1-Is malaysian driftwood ok or do I need a softer type?
2-How fast will the pleco eat the driftwood? Will it eventually eat the whole piece?

Malaysian is a great choice.

I've only had my piece for about 4 months and haven't seen a difference in the parts that he munches on.
