Does anyone know (or know how to find out) if those inflatable swimming pools are safe for fish? I was going to buy one of those preformed ponds for my basement, but then I got an idea to get a pool (I had one of the plastic non-inflatable ones with goldfish when I was younger), I can get a bigger one for alot cheaper than one of those preformed ponds.

Never thought of anything popping it, but they should be pretty durable since people jump around in them and stuff. But you're right, it's something to think about, thanks. I may go with a hard plastic one again. So, back to the original question, are they safe for fish? I'm thinking most are since they are made for kids, and my goldfish lived in mine for years until I moved them and took it down.

Don't add any catfish. They have sharp fins which poke. I'd say unsafe for fish and just get the hard plastic myself. But then again, I am a fairly conservative fish keeper.

Ok, so another vote for hard plastic. My main concern is if they are toxic or not (inflatable or hard plastic).

Just a thought:
Some are painted, or have some sort of design on them... I dont know its exact construction, it could be colored plastic, or it could be actually painted. I would just check that out; i cant imagine chipping paint would be too good for fish?

well, where I go to find things like that, they usually have....for lack of a better explanation-giant tupperware containers. No paint, no color. I think those would work, they're pretty hardy. And most of them are rectangular, so you could attatch a filter or heater just as easily as you would on a normal aquarium...I imagine.

Yeah I have used those a few times as container ponds, but I don't think they come in as big of a size as I want to try this time. I want something about 400 - 500 gallons.

um not that it is really answering ur ?tion but if it was a big enough pool could u keep a banded shark in it? also how deep would it have to be?
