I have a snail invasion, im not sure if they are eating my plants or not since everytime i look at them they are on the glass cleaning it, but im finding holes in a few of my leaves on some plants, mainly on my tiger lotus.
The snails are small about the size of a pencil eraser. they laid eggs i see a small cluster of eggs on the glass.
Are these snails bad? are they the ones making the holes in my tiger lotus? or do tiger lotus sometimes get holes for other reasons?
fish are a pair of angelfish and a school of harlequin rasboras, cory cats, ottos and a sailfin pleco

So when everyone panics over snails its over nothing? lol
that would be good then :)
I dont know what species they are, they came in on some plants i bought a few months back. i removed a few but teensy weensy ones remained.
here are the holes. what else can cause holes in leaves?

so how do i add liquid fertz without getting algae??
the only answer i can possibly give you for that is be tom barr... maybe!

people use different methods... ei is a popular one coined by tom barr. there is a sticky on it and other things at the top of the planted section. that doesn't mean you won't get algae... there's too much that can go wrong... too many variables. it seems to me those who get the least algae have had it as much as the rest of us and have just learned. another way to look at it is it's like saying how do i never get a fish disease in my tank.

Excel doesn't cause algae. It actually helps kill algae such as Hair/Thread, Black Beard, etc.

You have a potassium deficiency in the leaves with holes. If you're looking for a simply way to dose fertilizers try a liquid fertilizer line such as Seachem or pfertz.com. Otherwise you can try the DIY fertilizer method if you want.

is this the same john n that wrote the articles about ei dosing by any chance?

Yeah thats what i was dosing, seachem liquid ferts, but i stopped the past month because of the algae.
i also used the root tabs in the soil, i forget the name of the black soil base i have, i think its made by carib sea?? but its the stuff packed in black water
well im back to the ferts, hopefully that will help. the tank was also shaded for a month by duckweed, i pulled out 90% of it the other day.
i also tugged at the algae today, it is black beard i think, cuz it looked and felt like pubes lol ewwwwwwwww

heres a pic from today after i removed almost all of the duckweed. i trimmed the vals that had black beard algae on them. should i double dose on the liquid ferts (seachem)??
