I need help identifying these things crawling on the tank glass. They have a white dot in the centre with small bristley legs and the move slowly across the glass...i guess so far i have spotted near 100 of them. Any ideas???...i hope there not a plague of small star fish!!.

Got pics? Possibly amphipods?

There to small...only a few of millimeters across and my mobile phone camera (sorry don't have a digital camera) isn't good enough to see them.

They are most likely pods of some variety, these are your friends and maybe eating diatoms off of your glass. If you have a magnifying glass you maybe able to identify the type. I wouldn't worry about it they are good fishfood and keep your sandbed clean as well.

I have them too!

Thought they may be my Nassarius snail fry, but maybe they are something else. Don't have as many as you have, but they seem harmless.

This morning I found one had grown into a starfish! I seem now to have two different kinds, and one (the starfish) is what you describe, the other is snail fry. I am attaching photos. Also, what is the third shrimplike critter?
