Anyone know of a sword that stays relatively small like in the 12 inch range? I had some at one point but must have traded them off.

For some reason my anubias will not do well in my 75 gallon tank. They get brown algae on the leaves and start browning on the edges. Its funny they do great in my 55 which has the same amount of light(1.75 wpg) but are better shaded I guess. Also the 75 gets more ferts, the 55 I just add a little KNO3 once a week and traces.

I need something broad leafed,if not the swords, that doesn't need to be shaded to sit in the bacxk left corner and in front of the Alternanthera reineckii in the middle front.(Pics of tank are in my sig)

I have the same problem on a single Anubias plant, which seems to corroborate what you conclude. The part without shade is overgrown with algae and gets curly leaves, whereas the part in the shade of some crypts grows nicely and is in flowers at the moment.

Look for compacta swords- Echinodorus bleheri "Compacta"- it is a dwarf variety of the amazon sword and stays well under 12 inches.

Look for the Kleiner bar sword.
A special hybrid sword plant developed originally in Europe. Wonderful brownish red color. One of the smaller sword species reaching 15 to 18" in height

Also if you want to go even smaller- the 2-6 inch range: Echinodorus Parviflorus V. Tropica
Echinodorus parviflorus "Tropica" is characterised by its beautiful hammered leaves with a small tip. The size depends on the light intensity, and in poor light it is quite a small plant. It looks best in small groups.
