what is the smallest heater you can buy cuz i got a 2 gallon hex with opnly a ramshorn snail in it and its non-heated(i dont even have the filter running cuz whats the snail gonna eat then?)so i leave the light on hoping for a little warm up and a little algae for the lil bugger to eat....right now its 55 degrees farenheit and I do not think it should be that cold for him...he still is active and eats the spongy betta bits i put in there(he likes them...but what else can i feed him?)So is there a heater i can get for him or do i need one?

You would normally use a 25 watt heater in this case, but you might get away with a 50 watt heater with a good thermostat. I have a quarantine tank 2 and 1/2 gal with a 50 watt heater and it is rock solid at 78F.
good luck
:)

Hi, Arctic Fishery !

I'm going to move this thread over to General FW for more responses since this is not directly a Newbie question ! :)

i'm not sure ramshorns need heat, pond snails i am pretty sure don't. maybe try www.applesnail.net and see if they have any info. i also don't remember seeing 25 watt heaters at all, and 50 watts seems like alot.

maybe try putting it closer to a heating source for the room? definately try to keep it away from drafty windows.

how cold is the room? 55 seems low and the water temperature shouldn't vary alot from room temps.

allright ill try to stop at the rms store today.....my room is comfortable....its like 68....plus my windows are plasticed up....so there is no draft....maybe i have a bad thermometer......
