hello,
I have noticed something about my clown loaches, when they dig for food they pick up a single pebble and move it out of the way, then they repeat until done.makes them seem very intellegent. Anyone know any other fish that act or are smart?

Yeah your fish seems pretty smart! I think clown loaches are some of the smartest of freshwater fish. What do you all think the smartest freshwater fish is? clownloach is my vote :D

Ah! Do any of you have the november issue of Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) magazine? They have a test you can do on your fish to test how smart it is!

They did a test on a Red Parrotfish cichlid. They did lots of tests, and the stats said the fish was 90% correct at telling red from brown, 45% correct telling one circle from three circles, and 76% at telling O vs. *

It was cool. Fish are smart! I dont know if my cat could do that.
:p

guppies engineered the software that run this board. no seriously, my guppies are idiots. my tiretrack eel was the first fish in my tanks to figure out that worms (or other small live food) come from the medicine dropper. as soon as he sees it enter the water, he jets out of wherever he's hiding (if he's not already begging for food, as has become his occasional habit), and zwooms up to the dropper, sucking out worms as fast as he can.

I heard the Elephant nose was the smartest...as are most cichlids...and Clown loaches surely have a high level of intelligence as well.
