Hi :)

Im new here :help:

for some reason my snails appear to hate life in general and keep dying.

I bought a much bigger tank (60l) for my 3 litle shubunkins they love life and are happy in their new tank have lots of fresh plants and new filter.

Ive had snails before and never had any trouble - i bought a couple for this new tank and they died - hmmm not enough calcium in thought (after finding poor shell quality) so adding some shells/suppliments. bought some new snails :)

then after about 6 weeks these guys have died too???

i do regular water changes and have fed the snails veggies (runner beans, lettuce) which they love....they will also eat the fish food....

The fish are fine so what could i possibly be doing to kill the snails??

(i do regular water changes etc)

What are your water parameters like? Especially pH, GH and KH... presuming your tank is fully "cycled". Snails need hard water and calcium rich foods. If you decide to get a new one, I can give you more info.

thx guys

It was a new tank (i bought it new) its just a rectangular tank with a glass plate for a lid. I allowed it to 'cycle' before puttin ghte fish in and the snails joined a few weeks later....

snails started looking very lethargic and unresponsive (didnt retract into shells when disturbed) so i removed them into a small tank with tank water and plenty of food etc - a couple appeared to perk up a bit for about 48 hrs but then all just laying at the bottom half out of their shells....

everything ive read on the web says they should be easy to keep providing the fish are healthy and there is enough calcium/food....

i think our water is quite 'soft' (i havent actually tested it) hence i added plenty of extra calcium in the form of dissolvable mineral block and crushed shell...
