Snail ID

Most spixis are likely to be pure and mine have the right spire shape. Without genetic testing I am dependent on my provider. In terms of their ethology as a species they would likely be omnivores.

But the generally those making the proposition in the affirmative (only hybrids eat plants) bring the evidence. I think it is just a myth.

Here's some evidence. there are at least 50 maybe even 75 spixis in this tank and they don't bother ANY of the HEALTHY plants.

My thinking is the opposite - that most Spixis are hybrids. I haven't heard any reports on them eating plants until that period around 2006-2007 when A LOT of snail breeders popped up, many of which (not knowing any better) kept the two species together. I know those breeders made up a large portion of the sales back then, and I would imagine their descendents would cover a large portion of the market today as well.

It's also worth noting that the government didn't restrict Spixis until it became well-known that it could cross with Marisas.
