Snail identification question

Hi all

This fella appeared in my tank a couple of weeks back, I think he arrived on one of my plants, anyway - lately my small collection of plants have been looking a bit worse for wear - also in my tank(20g) I have a small moor, a goldfish, a hillstream loach and 2 peppered cories.

some of the leaves are turning yellow around the edges and small holes are appearing in the centre of the leaves, now I know there are a number of varieties of snail, so is this guy the culprit ? - I find it hard to believe any of the fish are to blame.

Looks like a common snail though I can't think of the exact name. I do recommend you remove him though before your tank explodes with a trillion little baby snails that are almost impossible to get rid of.

As for the plant you probably need better lighting and maybe even some sort of plant food though you should ask for advice on that in the live plant section. Deffinitely not one of my specialties. Good luck!

They are pond snails.

Pond snails! Get em outta there! They'll eat your plants. If you place a blanched (dipped in boiling then icy water to soften) lettuce or spinach leaf into the tank at night, you can lift it out in the morning covered with snails, and then get rid of them in a humane manner.

Stange - I have kept common pond snails for decades, and they do not eat my plants. Snails only multiply to excessive numbers in overfed, undercleaned tanks. Too many snails is a tank handling problem.
