I am at work but my wife left me know that she pulled our plum-sized mystery snail off the intake of the AquaClear 110 in the tank. This happened to one of my smaller mystery snails and he recovered just fine, but she says that this one wasn't quite closing up his shell after she separated him and the goldfish (who usually ignore the snails) were starting to poke at him.

It seems that the snails are getting up there of their own accord, not just getting sucked in by the filter, but once they get on they appear to get stuck. Is there anyone who has dealt with this before? How can I make sure my snails are safe?

The reason the goldfish was picking on the snail after the incident, was probably because the snail got injured pretty bad in that intake tube and the goldfish thought it would taste good after smelling the snails " blood" in the water.

I went through a faze when I was breeding every color of pomacea diffusa(mystery snail) that I could get my hands on.
I had, golds, wild color, purple, purple striped, ivory, jade, blue,(that's just talking about the shells)then there differnt colored "feet"
Which just makes all of these common names really hard to decifer.
But you diddent ask for me to ramble on you wanted a solution

If you have HOB or canister filters, you need to put a sponge over the intake.
You can buy fluval brand per filters at most fish stores
Or what I do is buy a three pack of size 30 or 50 aqua clear foam filter inserts, and make two small cuts in it.
Then put it on the outtake of the filter.

You can do a sponge, or even some type of fabric (like pantyhose) ziptied over the intake. This will just keep them from getting sucked up or injured.
