joylynn (and Sandy), that bamboo shrimp (Atyopis moluccensis) will outgrow the 5 gal. They get to about 5" max size. I was advised on petshrimp.com not to even have one in a 10 gal (thought it would do better against my dwarf puffers due to its size), because that tank size was too small. I do love them, too, and can't wait to get another one in a big tank!
also, it may be best to supplement feed the bamboo with some crushed flakes or plankton or fry food, as I don't think it's enough for it to eat in a 5 gal with only one other inhabitant.
