Snail problem, removal methods??

if you don't like getting your hand wet, how do you clean your tank? lol

i catch mine using a ziplock baggy. i close it most of the way, prop open a small area with a rock, throw some gravel in the bag with an algea wafer before bed. in the morning i have a bag o snails. then i smosh them and chuck them in my loach tank. (:

Take Snoopy's idea and just make a trap with a plexiglass handle attached to it with silicon. If you make the handle long enough, you don't have to get your hand wet either.

As far as assassin snails are concerned, I got 11 of them on Thursday of last week. So far, I think they have killed 2 or 3 of the snails that I have put in the tank to feed them. I honestly think the pond snails are going to reproduce faster than the assassins kill them. At first, I was afraid I might run out of feeder snails, but between what I have growing in my 55 and 10, and what I put into the 29 for the assassins, I think I have them covered for about a year or more unless they are still adjusting to the tank. I have seen the assassins cruise right by a group of feeder snails and do absolutely nothing.

Don't count on it I have to have pest snails shipped in about every 3 months because I can't keep up. I have one tank with about 15 Adult Assassins that have taken out over 200 Rams and probably that many MTS in the last 2 months. Now nothing is left but the snails that are too small for the adults to eat on.

I also have several other tanks that are in the same state of getting low on feeders and my pest breeder tanks (which are double the # of gallons fo my Assassin tanks) are not keeping up..... :)

If all you have are ponds then Assassins will take a while to get around to eating them they are on the bottom of the food list, but that is another thread altogether so let's return this to the scheduled post of how to remove pest snails without getting all wet.....
