Snail question

wait, what is your exact goal for hte plant? size, shape? placement?

I just want something that my small crays and shrimp can hide in and eat. I loved the hornwort originally because it grew fast (which saved me cash on replacing the plants when they got eaten down, but that's no biggie ultimately). But then it started clouding up my tank walls with lil' growths (which left alone grew quite quickly, messing up the walls even more), which had me emptying and scrubbing down the tanks every week... which was irritating at the very least.

The plant is reproducing and the new plants are "attaching to the walls" and "clouding them up" with the growth. I'd love to cut away the peices that are being an issue except they are too small to cut (unless I leave them alone, they seem to be growing quick enough), I have to scrub them off.
What you are describing is the hornwort melting or just breaking apart (I guess, hard to tell with that description), which isn't what the plant will do if healthy. I've never heard of or had any experience with what you have described, hornwort should stay together, not break apart into little pieces that float around and stick to things unless it is being broken up by the tank inhabits or the flow of your filter or it is dying.

In any event, just because you haven't had an issue with the plant doesn't mean anyone else hasn't either, so kindly refrain from the snark.
Why the attitude? Not what you need to do to get help on this forum. I wasn't implying that if I have no problem no one else will, just sharing my experiences.

anacharis is another one that they will eat, but your crays are probably breaking the hornwort apart. probably any plants you put in there will not stay intact nicely. The anacharis may fair better than hornwort as its a little sturdier.

Please lets refrain from being rude to one another please. Lets try to stay to the op's question.

Yea, I'm not sure what it's actually doing or why. And it's only happening to the hornwort in two tanks, but not the remaining (it was all the same plant originally). And I'm not sure why it's doing that either, the conditions aren't varying that much from any of the tanks (from water conditions to inhabitants). But truthfully, plants aren't my strong suit so maybe there's a factor I'm missing in those two tanks that's affecting it. Ultimately, I think I'm just going to get rid of what's in those affected tanks since I don't know what's going wrong with it.

And I'm not presenting an attitude, it was a request to refrain from the snarky attitude. Nor was it in response to you not having a problem with the plants, it was towards the last half of the original comment (which granted, the internet does not allow for actual tones or moods to be portrayed) which came across rather rude from my POV. And from my POV, I didn't post a question just to get sniped at, thus my comment back. I have no intent to give anyone an attitude or cause them an issue, but neither do I intend to take it from anyone else.

Black_Sun if you are going to get rid of the hornwort, I want it please. Let me know. My floaters don't stay long either but it is b/c they get eaten. Hornwort is the only one that holds its own in my tank.

O and I agree with Msjinkzd a snail won't be the answer. I have columbian ramshorns in with my hornwort and they eat through a stem here and there and really just make a mess. Also I think that your lighting may not be strong enough for it. Mine was losing all of its little spikes in my tank making a huge mess on the walls, so I upted the lighting and now it is doing good. It also had a bad smell to it when it was loosing its leaves. Maybe your problem too??

I thought the ;) in my comment was enough to show that my comment wasn't intended to be rude. Maybe I should have gone with :D or with  or maybe even :p:. But from now on, about this subject, I'll just stick with this :lipssealedsmilie:.
