snail question

I'm pretty sure they don't. They eat detritus, left over food and stuff like that. Mine bury themselves in the sand and only come out when I feed the fish or at night. There are no real rules with livestock, just buy a few and if after a little while you think the tank could do with a few more then just get some more.

Depending on the tank I don't think one per 3g would be overdoing it. But like I said there is no real rule to it. I think my nassarius do a pretty good job at keeping the sand clean, I have 3 in a 20g.

I was reading this again and noticed you mentioned 1 for 3 gallons, what I was reading was 1 to 3 of these snails per gallon so a 100 gallon tank would use between 100 & 300 snails. hmmm

will nassarius snails also eat copods, worms and other micro organisms. I was recently reading that you should have 2-3 / gallon that seems like alot. is this correct?

Depends upon the type of "nassarius." Nassarius vibex shouldn't mess with any infauna. Other snails often sold as "nassarius" can eat much of that, though. Ilyanassa obsoleta is a good example.

Unless you feed extremely heavily, quantities like that are absurd. You'll simply end up starving snails. Grab a handful, see how they do, and add a few more if they are doing well and you aren't satisfied with the job they are doing.
