I've got a 55g, partially planted, with one 2-3" jack dempsey and one similarly sized texas convict. Has anyone had any experience with something like a gold inca snail and cichlids? Are the snails slow moving enough that the jd and tc won't be too interested in it? I hoping to add a snail or two to help with getting rid of dead/dying leaves on the plants. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I recently bought a black mystery snail for my cichlid tank, and was told by the "all knowing" Petsmart employee that the snail would be ok. Well, he was for about 15 minutes, and then my BP realized there was a "guest" in the tank and she and the other two cichlids (Jack dempsey and Green Terror) proceeded to nip at it for the next hour. I finally gave in and decided the snail was fish food if I left it in the tank much longer, so I moved it to my baby guppy tank. Its been fine there for about three months, but I wouldn't suggest putting any size snail in with Cichlids. They are too curious to let something as tasty as a snail hang out with them for very long. ; )

Thanks for the info, folks. I did get the snail, but put it in with our gouramis and tiger barbs, instead. It's doing well... took a while to get acclimated, but is now motoring around the tank.
