Snailbalism

my briggs live with mts, ramshorn, and bladder snails. Have only ever seen them eat dead or dying snails. But then thats what scavengers do, they scavenge for food. Part of their job within the eco system of the tank it to help keep the tank clear or things that may rot and pollute.

It could well be possible that something is insufficient in their diet. I quite often feed mine snail jellos made with meaty baby foods. It seems to go down greatfully with them.

I doubt the behavior really would be passed off. Snails have their own personality to begin with and brigs are the last things we see turning on other snails for food. Canaliculata complex on the other hand is a special case.

I don't doubt that for one second... I was just throwing out that if it were a snail eating brig and you could somehow breed that...

It's probably unlikely behaviour of something like that would be genetic...

... still there had to be the first ancestor of the Assassin that decided snails make for a good dinner.

Some behaviour can be learned though.

I don't know how intelligent snails are (watching three MTS make a beeline across the tank for a new rock I put in this morning made me wonder... are they scoping out the new territory? Are they that intelligent that they have curiosity? They certainly all seemed extra interested in the new rock).

I also don't know if snails have the capacity to learn through watching others or not. It's been scientifically proven that some spiders can "learn" - so why not snails?

Could one have stumbled upon a dying Ramshorn and figured... hey this tastes pretty good- I'll have to catch another one. Can snails learn from watching each other though? Could a second apple watch a first eating the ramshorn and become a "predator" himself?

(this is all assuming he is a predator and not just stumbling upon dead tank mates... as is more likely).

I stated what I been feeding many times :/

Shirakura Pellets
Tropical Flakes ( I have dario dario in the tank so whatever falls to the bottom snails eats em)

My blunder again.:nilly: I forgot that. Okay, what about the others?:)

Remind me again in chat when I get back, Dar although I'm better off marking this to My Favorites.;)

Edit: Got Bethany's. I'll run it here when I get back.

Okay, but define "veggies." What kind of veggies? What specifically?

What specifically are the ingredients in the snello? I know I make mine differently than the recipe.

I am not trying to be rude or anything, but "veggies" tells me absolutely nothing.... It could be romaine lettuce or eggplant for all I know.
