If you don't overfeed, they don't get too far out of hand. I'm actually trying to get the malaysian trumpet snails I have to take over, as they're more "acceptable" to me (mostly hide during daylight, livebearing, don't eat healthy plants). Assassins are a good choice from what I've heard, but as mentioned you have to keep feeding them. Most loaches will do, especially clowns and yoyos, but I keep shrimp, so this isn't a safe fish for them at all. Shrimp keepers are limited to trapping them or assassin snails.
edit: Oh yeah, kuhli loaches are pretty useless against them. Not all loaches are good snail eaters.
