hey, I have a ten gallon tank with three female bettas and I was thinking about getting a snail. The problem is that my tank is planted and I don't want the plants to get eaten. I know that some snails won't eat live plants, but I've read about some different snails and the information is sort of confusing. I think I know what will and what won't eat plants but I'm not completely sure. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, the following snails won't eat plants:

1)Ramshorn Snails
2)Malaysian Trumpet Snails

Is this Correct? If not, are there some other types that won't eat plants.
Also, I don't want the population to explode, so does anyone know if these snails need a mate or can they reproduce asexually. There was some confusing information on that too.

Anyway, thank you to anyone who responds.

If you want a snail that won't breed by itself and doesn't eat plants, you can get a brig, aka mystery snail. They come in a variety of colors and are plant friendly. I would keep an eye on your girls though, they may try to eat his antennae.

ramshorn dont eat plants unless they are the marisala kind that get huge, mysteries are ok, but i prefer my shrimp

mystery snails? really? I heard somewhere that they ate plants....
this is great though because my LPS (no LFS where I live) are having a snail sale (sorry, had to) on mystery snails and there were some blue and yellow ones that I thought were beautiful. I'll have to go get one now! I'll probobly go for a light blue one. I think they were the nicest looking.

I have both types in my tank and they've destroyed all my plants - the ramshorn aren't the big kind either.

This thread is from two months ago. I would think that it is all sorted out by now.
