snails and sand

i read they wont harm plant life but the cichlids will and i heard its hard to have real plants in a sand aquarium. I heard the sand is to fine to hold down the plants. my sand bed is about 2 inches

2 inches of sand will support plants just fine. You do need to add something to the water, or sand to fertilize them. I use liquid fertilizer heavy in iron because I plant a lot of amazon swords, just depends on your plants really. If you can keep the cichilds from tearing them up that is.

nope i really didnt think plants were important since i heard the cichlids will eat them and uproot them and i would have to continuously plant new ones. does the fertilizer hurt the water.
