snails breathing tubes

My pomacea diffusa do this usually at night after lights out. They do it on the bottom of the tank as well as at the waterline. Its cool to watch for sure!!!

If you get concerned, can an air pump/stone help get more oxygen in the water?

are there more snails than just the mystery that have the breathing tubes?
Wow this is a whole nother fascinating side of aquarium keeping that I never knew!

I wanted to get a couple assassins. beautiful!
Just don't mix them with your other snails, okay? Can't trust the predators even to snails larger than them.:headshake2:

The tube by assassins is used to detect the smell of their prey. They have another tube coiled in their mouths to stab the prey and suck it up.

All apple snails have the breathing siphons in order to breathe air as they have both lungs and gills. Pond snails, bladder snails, common ramshorns and a few others don't have it.
