Hi,

I have a 4 inch fahaka but Im not sure which type of snails i should get for him...there are those very very small snails with shells like pointed cones and there are those big gold inca or black mystery snails....which one should I feed him with??.....i want to keep his teeth trimmed but crayfish are just way too big for him rite now...

I had decent luck with my smaller puffers feeding rams horn snails. When they are smaller their shells aren't too tough and they are a very active snail and good breeder.

I prefer the common pond snails for my puffers, but they'll eat anything. Best bet it to get ones that will reproduce quickly. Ghost shrimp are also a good choice--not as crunchy, but still helpful.

You might also look into freshwater mussels, often available at the grocery store. Small shrimp with their shells on are a good choice as well. You'll be much happier if you get him eating prepared or frozen foods in addition to the live foods.

the snails that can be crushed between your fingers are good. the larger snails that cannot be crushed with finger tip pressure can be smashed with a hammer and thrown in only if you puff is going to eat it right away.

If its a snail your fahaka will eat it..Just listen very closely to what everyone is saying if the snail (ramshorn) get to big there shell gets very hard and could break teeth..My fahaka loves crayfish,snails,etc..Pretty much anything that I put in his tank the more the better...:D My fahaka is about seven inches..nine and a half if you count the tail...
