Snails? how?

I have just noticed snails in my tank; however, I have not changed anything but the water in six months. I have city water so I would not think they came from my water changes. They are not a problem but I can’t imagine how they got there; does anyone have an idea about this.

Did you purchase any live plants lately? Snails often hitch a ride ( or thier eggs ) to live plants.

Snails come in on the plants. Their eggs can also be transferred in fish water ie: when you buy a new fish.

The last time I put anything new in my tank was december.

Well snails are really good at hiding. I know for a fact that my planted tank has snails but I might only see them once every 2 months or so. They tend to hide in the gravel during the day.

I've got snails in my tank from adding new fish and from adding new plants both. Sometimes they can be very good hiders as well.
