Snails in a Discus tank? Is it possible?

I'll beg to differ. My Discus ate my pond snails, whole. Swallowed it, shell and all, and pooped out the hollow shell. I thought one of them was having a stroke, but it ended up it was constipated from the snail shell.
Constipated because of a snail shell? Could you please explain this a little further? How big were the discus and snails in question?

What kind of pleco did you have in with the discus? I strongly recommend BN plecos (Ancistrus sp.) for your tank. Your 180g tank could easily support 8 fully grown adults. They do a wonderful job with keeping algae off of the glass and off of plants. They don't eat plants either. It isn't common for BN plecos to go after discus. There are some other BN plecos that used to be common in the hobby before the Ancistrus sp. that were known to go after discus, but the Ancistrus don't go after them. Of course there is always the exception to the rule, but I have 3 that are 3" in my 55g with a group of sub-adults and about 6 of various sizes, including a MASSIVE 4.5+" female in my 100g with discus and have never had any problems whatsoever.

I had a common pleco - I do not know what what a BN pleco????

BN (bushynose/bristlenose) plecos only get about 4.5+" long and should be kept 1 per 20g of water. They are excellent for algae. Common plecos are more of a meat eater and scavenger than BN plecos. BN's will eat meaty stuff too (like dead fish) but they are great algea eaters. Check on AquaBid for some. There are many options to choose from. Albinos, calicos, browns, reds, standard finned, long finned, blue eyed, etc.

OOOO - Yes see, I had some in the past - err one. ANyways I gotcha, I just did not make the connection.

Thanks,

good call bs6749 on the BN's
actually there are several different variations on the theme (so to speak) with concerning BN's

some may actually reach 5+" in length while others may only attain 3" at best. you can do a search on Ancistrus to get a better idea.
but they are great algae eaters.

I think I may try Snails and see how that works. They are super cool!

yes - I thought of that? I am not sure what I will do. I may try both?
