I read that with less than 7.0 their shells will corrode?
How can you keep snails in a tank of 6.0 to 6.5 pH

Use a natural method such as crushed coral or dolamite in a media bag in yoru filter to raise the ph. Feed them calcium rich foods as well.

The thing is that I don't want to raise the pH.
My plants need the lower pH and I will be using a injection system later this week.

I know there has got to be many people out there using snails in low pH tank, any problems?
I think shrimp need a higher pH also of 7.0+ pH?

Why would it hurt your plants to raise the ph?

To add, the water will dissolve the shells with a ph that low, IF the hardness is low as well, which I am sure it is. No matter what the invert consumes, the water will dissolve it from the outside..

oh.. How long does it take to dissolve?
Is this like a couple year thing or only a few weeks?
Sounds like I should just not keep snails in my tank, I thought many people used snails in setups like mine? I'm confused

Some of my plants need a low pH and low kH like my Tonina Belem's and with running Co2 it's going to be to much trouble to try and balance these water perimeters with additives.

I was thinking I could make a 10 gallon snail tank.
Could I put the snails in my tank for like 3 or 4 days, then take them out and put them back in a snail tank for about a week and repeat this?
Not sure on the number of days in and days out but you get the idea.

Anyone?

Yes, they do but most are not aware the shells can erode in soft acidic waters which is why most snails later on look less than impressive compared to how they look before. With a pH that low, you should not keep snails in there at all.

IMO, this is stressful to try transporting the poor snails around. Get a tank of their own and just stick to it. Put low lighting plants there. They won't be demanding CO2 injection which could cause problems to your snails.
