snails life span

Good question. Can't recall, and can't find it quickly. Look around on applesnail.net and you should find it somewhere. I do remember that it is dependent on temperature (on the high side of "acceptable" range will result in shorter lifespan).

apparently in my tank, less than a year....

they should live pretty long though, depending on species. i know the larger varieties (softball size) can live many many years.

snail poop is in no way poisonous. in fact, i catch my amanos eating it sometimes because it's still chocked full with algae. they do come out long and unsightly but thats about it. apple snails make a great addition to any peaceful community tanks.

yes the snail would eat plants, thats why i have only fake plants in my tank, not to mention my fish would just dig them up anyways.

this is not always true. as long as you keep them well fed they rarely eat plants, and mine has yet to uproot a single plant.

mine is a year old and still going strong. he's not your typical apple snail, though.(columbian ramshorn)

I believe cana snails (the softball sized ones) are known for decimating planted tanks. Brigs (common mystery snail) will generally only eat decaying plants (unless starving).
